Whatever Happened to That Third-Person Call of Duty Game?

Confirming something that was, well, already pretty clear earlier this year, Sledgehammer has said that helping Infinity Ward develop Modern Warfare 3 meant it had to abandon its planned third-person Call of Duty game.

"We came on board to make a third person action adventure game, in the Call of Duty franchise, and we were working on it about six months," Sledgehammer co-founder Glen Schofield told GameSpot.

"We had a prototype together that was pretty compelling, and it looked really good," added the studio's other co-founder, Michael Condrey, who also said that shifting over to development on Modern Warfare 3 was easy because "The opportunity to work on the biggest thing in the industry with Infinity Ward, that's demonstrated that they know how to do exceptional software, was just an opportunity we couldn't [pass up]."

Just in case you were wondering what a third-person Call of Duty game would look like (which the team's publisher described as an "action/adventure" game), Activision has said it may revisit the concept at some point in the future. Probably when people stop buying first-person Call of Duty games.
